Foundation programme

Foundation programme at KMC Brighton and on Zoom

On Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM with Gen Kelsang Jigme

The Foundation Programme (FP) provides an opportunity to engage in systematic study and meditation on the essential subjects of Kadampa Buddhism based on six books by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. The emphasis in the classes, which consist of teachings, meditation, and discussion, is on gaining practical experience of Buddha’s teachings that you can apply to your daily life.

FP is a tried and tested way to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of Buddha’s teachings, maintain a daily meditation practice that is both focused and powerful, and make genuine spiritual progress. If you have been coming to classes regularly and have been getting a lot out of your GP classes but feel you want to go a bit deeper with your study and practice – the systematic study of this essential Buddhist text on FP may be a perfect next step for you.

We will begin studying the book, Joyful Path of Good Fortune. You are welcome to try out two free taster classes but if you wish to join, you need to commit to attending each class.

This will be available in person and in certain circumstances, live streamed.

joyful path of good fortune book

A clear and comprehensive explanation of the entire path to enlightenment. We all have the potential for self-transformation, and a limitless capacity for the growth of good qualities, but to fulfil this potential we need to know what to do along every stage of our spiritual journey.

With this book, Geshe Kelsang offers us step-by-step guidance on the meditation practices that will lead us to lasting inner peace and happiness. With extraordinary clarity, he presents all Buddha’s teachings in the order in which they are to be practised, enriching his explanation with stories and illuminating analogies. This is a perfect guidebook to the Buddhist path.

The practice of Lamrim is very important because everyone needs to cultivate peaceful states of mind. By listening to or reading these teachings we can learn how to control our mind and always keep a good motivation in our heart. This will make all our daily actions pure and meaningful.

Each class includes prayers, guided meditation, a teaching, and a paired discussion. There is a group discussion every 3 sessions. In this way, participants deeply embed the meaning of the text in their memory, and agree together on the correct, practical way to apply the teachings daily at work, with friends, within the family… The teacher is available at any time to clarify any aspect of the teaching, and there is always a time for questions and answers.

“What we need is not a display of miraculous powers, but a clear example showing how to practise the path comfortably and smoothly, and how to see it through to completion. This is the true method for solving our human problems.”
